Intelligence VS mind
In our discussion, he mentioned that the mind plays tricks on us. I have also heard this before, but I always feel it interesting this concept of three separate entities - body, mind and intelligence. We are the intelligence, not the mind or the body. Body is dispensable, as in it's temporary. It will rot away eventually. So, the best we do to get as detached from the body, and appearance, the better it is. For what? I don't know. But it doesn't mean we don't take care of our body, because if we don't it affects other aspects of our life. So, body is as important, but attachment to material world, we do have to try our best to get away from. As for mind, mind shouldn't be the one that should have control over us, but the intelligence should have control over the mind. The mind will say "I want to do this". We have to get somewhere, the mind will say "I want to be lazy, what's the hurry. We can get there few minutes late". This way, things go awry. Life might go awry, or maybe you cannot become what you want to be. There is a deadline coming up, mind will say "Let's watch some videos. Let's not worry." or "I am very stressed, let's get something to eat. Let's get some ice-cream". Or things like that. But our intelligence should be the one having control over our mind. Like he said, we should have some principles, and we should abide by these principles, when mind tells you other things, when mind plays tricks on you. He didn't say what principles, but I believe it meant "duty" that we have to fulfill, towards ourselves, towards others. I believe, it partly infers to the discipline that we need to have in certain aspects of life, or in all aspects of our life, to do what needs to be done, to do what you have a goal for in life, for your own personal development, and for the sake of others. Discipline, and Principles, is what an intelligent person would do, what a person, with control over his/her mind would do.
